V vs Z Car Dyno Day

November 13, 2017

After being approached by some members of a Z Car enthusiast club we decided to host a Dyno Day at PZP. For those who aren’t familiar with the term Dyno Day, it’s an event we host from time to time where members of a club or group can come together and put their cars on our chassis dyno in a type of playful yet competitive shootout to see who’s car comes out on top with the most power recorded on the dyno.

Each car is backed onto the dyno and given three consecutive runs with the highest power reading recorded on a leader-board. We also provide print outs of the dyno graphs including power, torque, air-fuel ratio and boost pressure (if forced induction) to the car’s owner to take home.

This particular Dyno Day turned out to be a shootout between the Nissan Z car family (350Z and 370Z) and the V series Skylines (V35 and V36). It turned out to be a good playing field with all of the cars based around the Nissan VQ35DE, VQ35HR and VQ37VHR engine platforms. There were some absolutely gorgeous cars on the day, with around 15 cars making it onto the dyno and around 40 spectators, it went off without a hitch. We even dragged out our R34 Skyline BBQ that we call the “RB-Q” and put on some lunch.

A big thank you goes out to all that attended and we look forward to hosting another one next year. We’d also like to say a big thank you to the PZP staff going above and beyond outside of their normal working hours to help host the day and Nathan Sixsmith Photography for shooting some great photos and videos of the day.
